Windsurfing in Thy gets another breath of fresh air from the Royal House of Denmark. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark has accepted to be patron for Denmark’s most spectacular surf event, which takes place in Klitmøller for the 4th time in September this year. HRH Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark becomes patron for the KIA Cold Hawaii PWA World Cup in wave performance windsurfing in Klitmøller. The event runs from the 16th – 22nd of September 2013. During this week 32 of the worlds best wave windsurfers will meet and compete on the rough waters, and perhaps the 2013 World Champion will be announced once again at this event on the PWA Tour.
It’s the 4th time that Klitmøller and the first-class waves on the reef are hosting the KIA Cold Hawaii PWA World Cup. By the means of local support, sponsors and different collaborations, the event has grown bigger in size and reputation, and has now reached new levels, where HRH Crown Prince Frederik wishes to become patron for the event.
Friends of Cold Hawaii is the association behind the Danish event on the PWA Tour. The President of Friends of Cold Hawaii, Finn Jorsal, is pleased with the royal encouragement:
“We are proud and honoured that His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik finds the KIA Cold Hawaii PWA World Cup worth supporting. It’s a boost, that gives us national as well as international status. That can make it possible for us, to make this event even bigger”
HRH Crown Prince Frederik has already announced that he will be present one of the days during the World Cup week.
It will not be the first time HRH Crown Prince Frederik is in Klitmøller in connection with windsurfing. On the 23rd of August 2011 he opened the new constructed waterfront, with boardwalk and clubhouse. During the year the clubhouse is, amongst other associations, the local Surf Club NASA, and when the PWA comes to town, it’s transformed into the headquarter of the World Cup.
KIA Cold Hawaii PWA World Cup is presented by City Lift A/S and Thy-Mors HF & VUC in collaboration with the Municipality of Thisted, Sport Event Denmark, LAG Thy-Mors, Visit Nordjylland, Feriepartner Thy, Sparekassen Thy, Gripsign and Spar Klitmøller. The World Cup is an annual event, that has existed since 2010.
